Child Health Checks

Health Visitors

You can normally see the Health Visitors at their drop-in clinic for further information please contact the Practice.

Health Visitors are all trained nurses who have extra training and qualifications in child health. They are a fantastic source of information about child development and health, parenting strategies, breastfeeding, nutrition and community support. They also offer help with social, emotional and environmental issues that affect families.

Child health checks

Appointments are sent out automatically by our local Health Board for routine child health checks.

The practice will invite you and  your baby for a developmental check  at eight weeks old with a GP at the surgery.

You will also be offered routine health reviews for your child, with your health visitor, at 6-8 weeks, 8-12 months and 2-2½ years old.

Child Immunisations

You will be notified of your child’s appointment for further immunisations by the immunisation team by means of an externally generated letter from the Scottish Immunisation Recall System (SIRS). If you fail to attend your initial appointment you will be sent one further reminder; if you fail to attend two appointments your child will not automatically be called again – you should contact the immunisation team on 01383 565456 in this instance.

Immunisations will be administered by immunisation team.

Further information on the schedule and vaccines in general can be found on NHS Inform

Hearing tests for children

Routine hearing tests are offered to newborn babies and children to identify any problems early on in their development.

Although serious hearing problems during childhood are rare, early testing ensures that any problems are picked up and managed as early as possible.
